In addition to audio information most modern facilities also have video information displays. Background and foreground music is common in most public facilities. Technology blender and security. There used to be more definitive lines between professional, commercial and consumer electronics. Smart technology has changed that forever. You can now walk around your facility and control the AV (and other) systems from your phone or tablet. In some cases customers are communicated to via text or IM. While these applications offer mind-boggling possibilities there remains a need for traditional mass communication via sight and sound that is not coming from the tiny speaker and screen in your phone. Bells and alarms will make the public aware that something is happening. Clear, verbal instructions should be provided also to direct people where to go and what to do. If you need to get people out of your facility don’t rely on them all getting the text. - JB
